Unlike many other Probiotics that consist primarily of a single strain of bacteria, Protexin consists of seven different naturally occuring bacteria and two yeasts. The effectiveness and synergy of these strains has been proven in years of trials and production application.Protexin is an aid duting periods of intestinal dysfunction in all animals, including treatment and control of scouring or diarrhoea, post-antibiotic therapy in all animals for the re-establishment of gut microflora following antibiotic usage, improved weight gain and feed conversion in growing pigs and cattle, aids in the establishment of gastrointestinal microflora of physiologically immature animals, eg. day old chikcs, neonatal calves, foals, lambs and kids, puppies and kittens

Feeding Protexin to broodmares before and after foaling is recommended to help minimise digestive upsets and the effects of stress, to help ensure a plentiful supply of colostrum and to improve milk quantity and quality. Extensive research trials by Dr Michael Glade (USA) indicate that mares fed probiotics for six weeks prior to foaling, had foals which were 11cm taller and 21kgs heaver at eight weeks than foals from unsupplemented mares. Foals and other animals are born with a sterile gut which is colonised quickly after birth by many strains of bacteria. The ratio between the strains is important as both beneficial and harmful bacteria are present and if harmful bacteria dominate the microflora, foals can rapidly become very sick.Protexin may be administered to foals immediately after birth to flood the gut with beneficial bacteria and aid in the establishment of a healthy gut microflora. Protexin should not be used in conjunction with Penicillins, Cephalosporins, Tetracyclines, Avoparcin, Gentomycin, Linomycin, Streptomycin, Tiamulin or Tylosin but may be used immediately following these antibiotics.

What is a Probiotic and how does it work?
